March Madness

 MARCH MADNESS

Its that time of year. March Madness has already arrived, and the steamboats chugging toward the railroad station already. This year, we saw 64 teams become 32, and now were down to 16. I gotta say, it looks like there were a lot more upsets than I ever imagined. We could start off with Morehead St. beating Louisville. I didn't take this as a huge surprise, because Morehead St. has the best rebounder in the country. But, that’s not all.Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) came rolling in, having to play for a spot in the big dance beating USC, then Georgetown, then Purdue. In my bracket, I had VCU out against USC, boy was I wrong. Next came Florida St. After beating Georgia, they demolished the fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Not surprising because they beat Duke earlier on in this year. The Butler Bulldogs once again emerged as underdogs, only to beat Old Dominion, and the #1 seeded Pitt, after last year's trip to the final. Last but not least, the Golden Eagles from Marquette with their blinding bright yellow uniforms, let loose a barrage of 3 pointers on their opponents upsetting Xavier and my beloved Syracuse. As a result, we can find 4 teams in the sweet sixteen with seedings in the double digits.

Matchup of the Week-

UCONN (3) vs. San Diego State (2)

San Diego St. came out this year with the best season they ever had. They are an inexperienced team and never danced the big dance before, unlike UConn which has always had a strong program, very consistent. Although I like the young SDST team, i think that their inexperience will bring them down in this weeks matchup against UConn, and expect a good performance from Kemba Walker of UConn.

My picks

Ohio St. (1) vs. Kentucky (4)

Eagles-Skins A friendly Competition

VS

This afternoon on October 2nd, Donovan McNabb and his redskins are going to face off with his previous team, the Philadelphia Eagles. This is not just any game, McNabb will be facing off with the best quarterback so far into the season, Michael Vick. Last year, in Philadelphia McNabb persuaded his team to acquire Vick after his time in prison. Vick served his time on dogfighting charges. Before that, he was an all star QB for the Atlanta Falcons, and in these last 2 1/2 games for the Eagles as a starter, he has gone back into the old routine. Personally, I view him as the best Quarterback in all of football at this point in the season. McNabb will be facing off with his friend and ex-team. He has not averaged the numbers that Vick has so far, but we can expect him to open up in this soon to be action filled game at 4:15 PM.

Here are the matchups:

Washington Leaders

Passing: McNabb - 62-102, 833 yds, 2 tds

Rushing: Portis - 38 car, 140 yds, 2 tds

Receiving: Moss - 22 rec, 290 yds, 1 td

Philadelphia Leaders

Passing: Vick - 54-89, 750 yds, 6 tds

Rushing: McCoy - 34 car, 209 yds, 4 tds

Receiving: Jackson - 13 rec, 318 yds, 2 tds

Celtics vs. Lakers- Rematch

After last night, the LA Lakers and Kobe Bryant scoring 38 points roll on their way past the suns into the 2010 NBA finals against the ailing Boston Celtics. A rematch of 2008, when the Celtics beat the Lakers in 6 games. This time, the Lakers have a greater chance, Ron Artest on fire, and a healthy Kobe. This is no good news to the Celtics with hurt Kevin Garnett, and the tired Rajon Rondo although we might see some of Nate Robinson. Historically both franchises have reached the finals plenty of times, and this year we can expect a great series, better than the last time these two teams met in the finals.

Lebron to NY?

What do you think about Le Bron coming to NYC? He is just one of the five big free agents this summer including Bosh, Wade, Johnson, and Stoudimire. I think that LeBron will stay in Cleveland, although while being a Knicks fan, hope he will come to NY. The Knicks practically killed their entire team in order to clear the cap room for the money to pay LeBron.I will tell you this- LeBron looks settled in Cleveland, where he has a nice house that took him 3 years to build, a family, but no championship ring. Critics believe that James might have a greater chance of moving to NYC after the loss to Boston in 6 games. But, we still see the Cavaliers desperately trying to keep LeBron, firing head coach Mike Brown, who has a great record. It was obvious LeBron had a say in this.
